Flagstaff Consulting
Group Pty Ltd was incorporated in April 1995, benefiting from over
160 years collective experience of the five founding directors in
engineering, project development and construction. Ross Baldwin, Randolph
Creswell, Geoff Curnow, Reg Hobbs and Bryan Kelly had all spent a
significant part of their careers with the John Holland Group.
The founders saw a need for new types
of advice to clients whose business interests include the delivery
of major capital projects.
The founders recognised
that delivery of projects had significantly changed in recent years,
because of increased complexity and sophistication. At the same
time, a wealth of 'hands-on construction experience had left industry.
Major corporate entities
no longer possessed substantial 'in-house' technical and project
development experience.
This dearth of experience
presented an ideal opportunity to assist clients with the strategic
management of risk, including quantitative analysis of cost and
time.
The firm grew quickly with a wide range
of Government and private sector clients seeking its services.
There are now fourteen
equity Principals and ten Senior Associates. Retired Principals
continue as Consultants to the firm.
The firm has offices in
Melbourne and Brisbane with senior consultants resident in Sydney.
Our
name
Flagstaff Hill was a key part of Melbourne's early infrastructure.
In 1840, a tall timber mast was erected, from which flags were flown
according to a signalling system. It communicated shipping movements
and weather reports between the Williamstown lighthouse and the
new town. At noon, each day, a black ball was hoisted and dropped
to provide the first accurate time signal for Melbourne.
The founders of Flagstaff considered this was an appropriate metaphor
for a firm aiming to set new standards in the provision of high
level advisory services.
