Project Description:
- Queensland University of Technology is one of the few Australian Universities to provide its engineering students with a course in construction estimating and cost control, vital elements in the commercial viability and performance of the project development industry. QUT engaged Flagstaff to deliver the program.
Project Details
Client: Queensland University of Technology
The Challenge:
- To develop and deliver lectures, workshops, tutorials, assignments and examinations on construction estimating and cost control
- To ensure students understand the commercial environment in which they shall operate
- To ensure students understand first principles estimates and how they are adapted for use in the commercial environment
- To develop practical methods of assessment which measure students understanding of the commercial estimating process from first principles through to industry’s application of them in estimating packages
- To apply Flagstaff’s wealth of knowledge on this topic, to the benefit of the next generation of the industry.
The Outcome:
QUT has continually retained Flagstaff for the last decade to conduct this subject as part of the curriculum for engineering students;
We provide one of the few Australian university courses which add the variable ‘human being’ to technical engineering formulae to produce the practical answer ’commercial outcome’.
Student survey scores show that they value the course highly.
