The $60m upgrade of the Swan Street Bridge is primarily focused on improving road traffic congestion and increasing pedestrian safety.
Works included:
- Staging and sequencing of demolition and replacement of external beams
- Temporary works to ensure stability of the structure during demolition and construction activities

The Challenge:
- Maintaining safe traffic on the bridge, waterways and bike paths during significant reconstruction works.
The Outcome:
Improve through put efficiency for vehicles by adding additional eastbound lane to prevent illegal manoeuvres
Upgrade current bridge design life and balancing needs of all road users – by strengthening & separating critical road, pedestrian and cyclist movements and
Fully separate pedestrian and cyclists from vehicles and commuters – by providing 4m wide shared user paths to each side of the bridge
