Project Description:
AECOM were awarded the surface infrastructure package for the Definitive Feasibility Study covering a proposed open cut and underground mining operation at Xstrata Coal’s United Colliery.
Project Details

The study completed in June 2011 included the following scope:
- Open Cut
- Water supply and storage dam
- Water management on site
- Mine Infrastructure Area including workshops, offices and amenities
- Fuel and lubricant storage, handling and distribution
- High voltage transmission line relocations
- New regional highway intersection
- Power supply and distribution onsite
- Communications backbone for site
- Operational fuel storage facility
- Coal export transport corridor from site
- Bulk earthworks for all facilities including the CHPP
- Underground
- Upgrade regional highway intersection
- Haul road connection to the open cut area and CHPP
- Flagstaff provided Project Management support for this study
The Challenge:
- Developing an integrated facility with open cut and underground options
- Interface with CHPP consultant
- Interfaces with statutory authorities regarding realignment of existing infrastructure
The Outcome:
United Collieries project personnel were actively engaged in the review workflow processes
Study delivered on time and within budget
Capital cost trends from the Prefeasibility Study values were identified and reported progressively
