Project Description:

AECOM were awarded the surface infrastructure package for the Definitive Feasibility Study covering a proposed open cut and underground mining operation at Xstrata Coal’s United Colliery.

Project Details

Client: AECOM

The study completed in June 2011 included the following scope:

  • Open Cut
  • Water supply and storage dam
  • Water management on site
  • Mine Infrastructure Area including workshops, offices and amenities
  • Fuel and lubricant storage, handling and distribution
  • High voltage transmission line relocations
  • New regional highway intersection
  • Power supply and distribution onsite
  • Communications backbone for site
  • Operational fuel storage facility
  • Coal export transport corridor from site
  • Bulk earthworks for all facilities including the CHPP
  • Underground
  • Upgrade regional highway intersection
  • Haul road connection to the open cut area and CHPP
  • Flagstaff provided Project Management support for this study

The Challenge:

  • Developing an integrated facility with open cut and underground options
  • Interface with CHPP consultant
  • Interfaces with statutory authorities regarding realignment of existing infrastructure
